New Report on Climate Messaging

A new report from EcoAmerica details strategies for communicating about climate change. Several recommendations stand out:

  • Instead of talking about climate science, talk about damage to the climate. No need to debate the science.

  • Don't dwell on the impacts on climate change. Explain what's at stake, and then focus on solutions.

  • Talk about what people can do at the local level (e.g. "We can’t wait for Washington to solve our problems.").

  • Say "we", not "I." It's empowering think about what we can accomplish together.

  • Talk about personal savings as a result of energy efficiency and clean energy more than job growth as the result of investing in renewables.

  • Instead of talking about regulation, talk about fines and rules for polluters.

  • Talk about the opportunity to choose clean energy.
